# Base44 vs Lovable (2026): managed data and code portability

Canonical: https://uvilno.com/compare/base44-vs-lovable
Updated: 2026-10-28

Base44 and Lovable both document managed app backends, so the choice is more specific than database versus no database. Compare their data model, visitor authorization, operating allowances and export workflow. Base44's CLI eject command copies frontend and backend resources into a separate project but does not copy application data. Lovable also treats code and database exports as separate responsibilities.

## 2026 full-stack engineering evaluation rubric

Uvilno first because Uvilno publishes this comparison; not a measured rank. The five publisher-selected criteria total 100 points. A documented capability is not an equivalent hands-on result. Unknown checks stay unmeasured, never failed. Overall scores remain null until a comparable test protocol is completed.

- **Code ownership & export cost: 25 possible points.** Build the same app, obtain its complete source, record the actual purchase, and rebuild on a separate host. Test continued source access and document the backend services that still need migration.
- **Database, accounts & app AI: 25 possible points.** Create, edit and remove the same records; reload; repeat with another account; check record permissions; run a real app-AI request and inspect a triggered automation. Record each managed or external dependency.
- **Targeted edit precision & speed: 20 possible points.** Apply the same specified changes to matched projects. Compare exact file deltas, verify the rendered target and unchanged routes, and record end-to-end timings including verification. Publish failures as well as successes.
- **No-usage editing & recovery: 15 possible points.** Make the same direct edit and introduce the same reproducible fault. Inspect actual usage ledgers, repair limits and saved-version behavior. A limited free path must not be described as unlimited free coding.
- **Multi-page & interactive applications: 15 possible points.** Build and navigate the same route plan, exercise state across pages, then measure frame time and input response on named devices. Framework support or an attractive screenshot does not establish a universal 60 FPS result.

### Uvilno

Overall score: not measured. 17 documented or recorded checklist conditions; 3 unmeasured; 0 explicitly unmet. This is evidence coverage, not product quality.

**Code ownership & export cost**
- Documented: An owned, unlocked project can export its runtime-appropriate source and referenced media. Sources: https://uvilno.com/docs.
- Documented: Supported frontends can use authorized GitHub import, push and pull; a source push requires unlock. Sources: https://uvilno.com/docs.
- Documented: Free is $0; a source unlock is $4.99 once. Plus is $10/month, Pro $20/month and Ultra $59/month. Generation and hosted services are separate. Sources: https://uvilno.com/pricing.
- Documented: The $4.99 purchase permanently unlocks one project's source; subscription generation remains finite. Sources: https://uvilno.com/pricing.
- Documented: Source export is not a copy of managed records, visitor identities, payment credentials or hosted services. Sources: https://uvilno.com/docs.

**Database, accounts & app AI**
- Documented: Uvilno.db CRUD and App Data use schema-declared, persistent app records. Sources: https://uvilno.com/benchmarks.
- Documented: Managed visitor identities are isolated per project from the creator's platform session. Sources: https://uvilno.com/benchmarks.
- Documented: Uvilno.ai.ask/json makes real owner-funded calls; admission limits and a 600-output-token ceiling apply. Sources: https://uvilno.com/benchmarks.
- Documented: data/schema.json declares collection fields and access; the runtime exposes validated data operations. Sources: https://uvilno.com/docs.
- Documented: Bounded record effects and notifications execute in the triggering record transaction; arbitrary server code, email and network actions are outside this rules engine. Sources: https://uvilno.com/benchmarks.

**Targeted edit precision & speed**
- Documented: @file, @page, @db and bounded repository retrieval supply explicit context. Sources: https://uvilno.com/docs.
- Documented: The mapped inspector supplies selected-element context or a supported direct text, link or color change. Sources: https://uvilno.com/docs.
- Unmeasured: Recorded targeted checks do not establish a comparative edit-accuracy rate across vendors.
- Unmeasured: No matched cross-vendor timing establishes a universal 4–8 second edit duration.

**No-usage editing & recovery**
- Documented: Mapped direct text, link and color changes use 0% model usage; unsupported computed elements use the normal scoped-edit path. Sources: https://uvilno.com/docs.
- Documented: A reproduced native-static runtime fault was repaired and rechecked without customer usage. This bounded path is rate-limited and does not cover every engine error. Sources: https://uvilno.com/benchmarks.
- Documented: Saved-version and entitled per-file restores preserve checkpoints without invoking the generation model; verification still applies. Sources: https://uvilno.com/docs.

**Multi-page & interactive applications**
- Documented: Contract-first route plans and reusable modules support multi-page frontends; saved legacy and eligible Next.js projects retain their respective runtimes. Sources: https://uvilno.com/docs.
- Documented: The portable Canvas game runtime and authored interactive fixtures provide workload evidence, not a promise about every generated game. Sources: https://uvilno.com/benchmarks.
- Unmeasured: A matched hardware/workload frame-time study has not been published; 60 FPS is not guaranteed.

## Uvilno

Uvilno offers a third route for an app that fits typed schema collections and the supported SDK: build by chat, review the isolated preview and unlock source permanently for $4.99. Its exported frontend can still depend on Uvilno-managed auth and data. Apply the same migration checklist to Uvilno rather than calling every export a fully independent backend.

## Compare data operations and permission rules

Base44's documented core features include database functionality and authentication; Lovable supplies a managed backend too. Define the entities, relationships and allowed operations before choosing. A convincing demonstration should save real records and deny an unauthorized write, not simply display an editable table in the preview.

## Source access is not a complete data transfer

Base44's eject workflow produces a separate local project and a new app identity. Its copied schema starts with an empty database. Lovable's database export is also separate from Git-synchronized code. Record whether files, secrets, functions, user identities and existing rows need additional work; do not describe either platform as universally unable to export source.

## Model an operating month

Choose a realistic number of active visitors, form submissions and AI requests, then inspect each vendor's current plan and usage policy. A plan's message or integration allowance is not a guaranteed number of complete applications. Preserve the billing interval and quote when estimating a move, and include the work of recreating hosted-service behavior.

## Acceptance checks

- Write a simple entity contract and test create, update and permission denial.
- Export the frontend and list each runtime dependency that remains hosted.
- Export disposable database rows separately and verify the import into a clean target.
- Test a newly registered visitor after migration, not just the project creator.

## Questions

### Does Base44 have no code-export path?

That blanket claim is inaccurate. Base44 documents a CLI eject workflow that downloads frontend code, entity schemas and backend resources into a separate project. Its documentation says the ejected database is empty; data migration is separate.

### Are Base44 and Lovable both managed database options?

Yes. Both document database and authentication capabilities. Their exact schema tools, permission controls, billing and portability behavior should be checked against the same application requirements.

### Does an exported frontend include a portable copy of all visitor accounts?

Do not assume so. Source, application data, uploaded files, secrets and identity services have distinct migration requirements. Prove each part with a disposable test before moving a real application.

Uvilno publishes this comparison and is displayed first as an editorial presentation choice, not an independent ranking. Vendor statements come from the linked official documentation reviewed on October 28, 2026. No common-brief generation contest, aesthetic score, universal frame rate or edit-latency benchmark was performed for this page. A source handoff and migration of hosted data, accounts and services are separate tasks.
